There are many approaches to counselling or longer term psychotherapy.  There are different ways of working but the quality of the therapeutic relationship is what underpins the success of any talk therapy.

Sometimes specific therapeutic tools can assist in helping us find solutions and make the necessary changes in our lives. Some of us seek an opportunity to express ourselves and find our own solutions while others  feel they need a more directive approach. Daniel seeks to work in your best interests at all times and in a way that most suits your needs.

Daniel's aim is to help you to see, express and process any difficulties you are experiencing or have experienced in the past. His efforts are focussed on being fully present in the time you spend with him and provide a safe place where he can help you find new perspective.

He believes that when we can understand some of the roots of our distress and acknowledge the impact these have had, it becomes easier to find resolution and then we can begin to seek solutions that work for us.

Often, collaborating with an experienced therapist can assist in the process of implementing lasting changes in our life and reaching realistic goals.

Therapy is a long process that often feels hard and frustrating before you see you are making progress, however it provides the space and time needed to understand yourself and to achieve what is most important to you.

We might find that certain things we thought were not important to us, actually are and likewise, the things we thought we really wanted or considered important begin to lose their appeal.

All sessions are by appointment. There is an initial consultation and then usually a series of sessions are agreed to. Generally it's six or twelve sessions, however in some cases one or two sessions are enough. Daniel also works with clients on a longer term basis. This is discussed and agreed in the initial assessment during the first consultation. There is a continued assessment throughout therapy so that we can work towards an agreed ending or break from therapy if appropriate.

Initial Consultation and ongoing therapy

Your First Appointment

Your first  one-to-one consultation which takes place over 50 minutes will allow you to talk about why you are considering therapy, what you hope to gain and to decide whether counselling or psychotherapy might be useful for you.

Counselling usually involves once a week sessions. It often focuses on the present and problems in everyday life. In some cases psychotherapy may involve a greater number of sessions a week with an increased focus on unconscious processes and linking past and present experiences. The priority is to recognise what you personally will need in order to get the most out of the process.

After the initial consultation, if you decide to work with Daniel, the two of you will agree a verbal contract. This contract is reviewed periodically and includes the fee and the days and times of ongoing sessions.

As session times are prescheduled, you will be asked to pay for missed or cancelled sessions where there is less than 48 hrs notice.
